What are some common symptoms of stress
- headaches
One of the main symptoms is headaches. If you start getting unexplainable headaches, it’s probably stress.
- Fatique
When doing your normal daily activities, you become easily tired, or maybe you feel fatigued all the time, making normal activities impossible, even after a full night’s rest.
- Irritability
How do you respond to normal requests from friends and family? Are you more short with them? Maybe with your boss, you are too short or low on patience. These can all be signs of stress.
- Trouble focusing
Paying attention might become difficult if you are always focused on your main stress point.
How do I know if my stress is too high
- Physical pain
Frequent headaches, clenched jaw, and tension in neck and shoulders.
- Emotional Exhaustion
Feeling overwhelmed or anxious all the time.
- Changes in daily behaviour that disrupt daily life
Your behaviour will tell how you are feeling oftentimes. I know for myself I get an attitude problem about everything. I might start cancelling plans or ignoring folks. If you have all this, you may need some help managing stress.
What is the fastest way to relieve stress
- Controlled deep breathing
Breathe in through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Take nice deep breaths, counting to five for each repetition of the breath.
- Quick walk
If you’re able to take a quick walk, that can blow off some steam pretty quickly.
- Aromatherapy
You could carry bottles of favorite scents or scents known for having a calming effect. When you’re upset, just put a little under your nose, on your temples, and behind your neck, at the base of your skull to get that all-around effect.
- Cold water
Splash your face with cold water. I have actually tried this one at work before. It’s a shock, but somehow knocks the senses out of the panic that seems to be happening.
How to heal your body from stress
- Intentional rest
Intentional rest means taking a break from all activity and setting a specific time for doing nothing at all. This is one of the best ways of managing stress. Instead of waiting till you are exhausted, take intentional breaks so you can focus on your well-being.
- Physical movement
Stretching and light movement will help with burning off cortisol.
- Proper nourishment
Eat balanced meals; limit sugar and caffeine because those activate the nervous system and increase tension.
