Why being desperate in weight-loss can be a bad thing
What leads to being desperate in weight-loss. Exactly what is it that makes you think”I need to lose weight“. Is is what the scale says or is it an inability to fit your clothes. How do you measure up in the scheme of things? Do you think doing it the old fashioned way is best? With diet and exercise. Or are you relying on the lies of weight-loss pills and the claims: We don’t need to change a thing. Just take this pill an hour before every meal or before bed and the pounds will shed off.
Well, I have to admit that I got a little desperate right before my last pregnancy and again after I quit nursing. I thought to myself,” What’s all the hype” and ” let’s see if it works”. Well, I’m happy to report that I was right the first time. Diet and exercise are best and works better than the pills. The pills or in this case Garcinia Cambodia is a bunch of bogus nonsense and while I realize some people swear by them. I haven’t found any evidence of them working yet. I have been trying them for 2 months and nothing.
But I already knew this. I had a weak moment, a desperate moment.
What I have found is that if I keep my blood sugars low, I lose weight. During my second pregnancy, I was the healthiest I have ever been. Why? Because my blood sugars were not super high like they have been of recent. Because the doctors were helping me keep it low and monitoring my behaviors. Another thing is that I was writing down everything I ate which made me more accountable.
Here is what I was doing right:
Not eating sweets, cookies, and junk-food.
So how do we actually do this? One way is to limit yourself to one day a week for a treat so that you don’t feel deprived. Or you could also have healthy desserts. That would require researching how to make your favorite dishes in a more healthy way. There are all kinds of veggies and fruits that can replace the high carbs and sugary desserts we love. If that isn’t possible for you and you need to go cold turkey, then don’t buy, bake or make anything in that zone. If someone else in the household likes them then you may need to keep them out of your sight. Out of sight out of mind is very popular because for many of us it works well.
I drank milk and protein powder
Making sure your body gets enough protein is important. Protein tells your body that you’re full and don’t need to eat anymore. Another benefit of protein is that it helps repair tissue. So if you workout or especially if you weight train. You need protein for a healthy recovery. It is better to get your protein out of the foods you eat instead of relying on a powder. However if your like me and struggle with getting enough protein then this may work better for you.
I ate my veggies
Healthy eating is one the most difficult tasks I have ever encountered. It’s different for everyone. For myself adding more veggies than meat was helpful for my weight-loss. Also if I didn’t eat more than I could fit in my fist for every meal. But I was pregnant, so how many times do you think I was successful at that. I had veggies with eggs for breakfast almost every morning and veggies as the morning snack as well as a lot of Greek yogurt with my own add-ins. Like blueberries or peanut butter. Not to mention veggies with dinner. Thankfully there are so many different kinds of veggies and the stores have it frozen when it goes out of season.
I drank loads of water
I didn’t drink coffee during that pregnancy(I honestly don’t know how I did it, must have been God). Water was essential to keeping my blood sugars level. Not soda, alcohol or flavored drinks. Just water, milk, and almond milk. They (the experts) say we should drink our body weight in ounces of water. I do love coffee but it dehydrates us. I had to drink it with my last pregnancy. But I was a good girl during my second one. Water flushes our system of toxins while hydrating us.
Regular Exercise ( I did it every day)
Physical activity is very important for the body. It needs some kind of movement every day. Even a daily walk is better than no activity. I’ve read that people who take a 20 to 30-minute walk every day feel better and are not overweight. It also adds life to your life span. Not only is it good for the body it is good for the mind too. So obviously my being desperate was for nothing. The only thing desperation did for me was lead me to make a decision in a hurry. I was looking for instant gratification. The weight did not get there overnight and it’s not going to come off over night. My whole household (myself included) have been sick the last 2 weeks. So I haven’t been getting my exercise and the cookies have been right in my sight. I think I need to hide them. If I do some pre prepping I can make more of my meals and maybe get back to that place of health.
Today I made a breakfast for the next 2 days and cut up some veggies. I have meals planned out and am ready to go. I have also been doing well at making the meals last. Meaning that I have been able to make one package of meat last for two or three meals. Each a different type of meal. Don’t think the hubby would appreciate the same thing every night. It’s been great for saving some funds too. Meat sure is expensive. Veggies too for that matter. So I hope these tips were helpful for you. Thinking of them have been helpful for me too. I have a lot of weight to take off but I’m just going to keep at it and not get discouraged. Healthy eating and living take practice. Creating habits like these take even more practice. That’s what we need. Lifetime habits for better living. Not get quick schemes to try to fool ourselves or others.
