Four Ways To Get In Exercise At Home
Getting to the gym to exercise can sometimes seem impossible. If you work, then you might have to work long hours and Saturday’s. I was once in that category. Not only that but if you work and have kids, fitting in the gym can be the obstacle that says whether or not you lose any pounds.
Yes. Exercise is important. In this world, we run out of time more frequently than ever putting a damper on our weight loss and fitness goals. I read something the other day in one of Benjamen P. Hardy’s articles. It said an awesome way to gain time was getting up one or two hours earlier. Then you have gained time and that all you had to do was deal with the first five minutes of pain, (the waking up part) to accomplish getting more out of your day. If you want to know more then Check out his articles here.
If you already get up this early then I’m sorry.
When I went to the day job. This wasn’t possible as I already got up at four am to get to work by five or six. But now that I am home, it is a great idea. When I went to work I needed more sleep. Now it’s not such a worry.
However, with the kids always getting sick it seems I can’t get to the gym the way I like. If you too are in this winter boat of getting stuck in the house with kids who won’t drink the necessary fluids to get well. Then maybe this is for you too.
I have been looking at all the ways to get in my exercise from home. Exercise helps to move our bowels and keep off unwanted pounds. It also helps with serotonin levels keeping us happier. And it helps us stay stress-free. Or I should say it helps relieve some stress. I have also found that with me spending so many hours at the computer now, that it makes for a nice break from the screen.
Another good thing about exercising is that it helps control food cravings. When I exercise I drink more water and crave less sugar. I do have to admit that I have a sugar addiction that I am working on breaking. It does not help that I love baking.
Wii Games or another system
I love our Wii. We still use the old one, though the hubby does have the Wii U. I have my Zumba which I love and some other games that have actual exercises on it. One of my Wii games came with a balance board that could tell you your weight or if you were distributing your weight correctly to do the exercise correctly. Don’t know if it was accurate but it is helpful in getting in the daily movement.
Our bodies were made to move and when we sit around our bodies become stiff. Another thing about sitting around is that we pick up any weight we lost or gain new weight. It also encourages mindless eating. If we are sitting in front of the tv all day most of us get bored and start to eat.
2. Spark people videos or favorite online exercise site.
Spark people is my favorite health website outside of Zumba. However, I have been seeing some exercise guidelines for body weight exercises on Pinterest too. For Yoga, For Bodyweight exercises. For Core. There are a lot more so make sure to click around. They are so helpful. In my current condition, I am unable to do a lot of them. But today I did get in a couple and I know with practice and consistency I will get better.
There are so many different types of exercises that work the entire body. If you don’t have a gym membership or don’t want one check out Pinterest. They have many people who have great content and ideas of how to work the body.
Stairs are great exercise. You can take the stairs when you go places (unless you have a stroller). I miss being able to have that choice but what I have is so much better. Stairs on your porch or if you have apartments near that have stairs. This is much easier if they are your stairs. If they are not your stairs, then make sure there are stairs on every on every set of apartments. So people don’t freak out on you!
4. Walking, Jogging, or riding
This one can be done with or without children. If you don’t have young children or babies then getting out to jog or bike ride in the mornings is just a matter of getting out of bed and staying out of bed (which is the hard part). Or maybe you have energy after work.
Seriously. After Work?
I never had energy after work but if I would just show up to the gym. Go inside, start walking and stay walking for at least ten minutes then I could make it through the rest of the workout. Exercising produces more energy. All you have to do is start. Kind of like that sink of dirty dishes. If I start then it’s easy to finish the rest!
If this doesn’t work for you then try parking farther away when you go to the store, the mall or anywhere you might drive to. The extra steps help. Try getting a pedometer that records all your steps. Then make a goal of 1000 steps every day.
While exercise is not the most important thing we can do for our bodies it is a very important piece. Combined with good eating habits, exercise can help you stay healthy. These are just a few of the ways you can exercise outside of the gym. It doesn’t even include getting involved with a sport you love which would not only provide exercise but fun, laughter and companionship. What a better way to be happy than doing something you love. So let’s get moving!
