How To Get Out Of The Funk Of Feeling Like A Failure
I’m feeling like a failure. Am I depressed? Why is my self-talk so negative? Is this the right choice for me or am I failing? Why am I failing? Am I failing??? Is this something you have been asking yourself lately?
What could you possibly be failing at? Life? And just how exactly do you fail at life? But maybe, just maybe. You’re not failing at all. It could be that you lost focus or got distracted. Lost in the dust of all the to do’s in this thing called life. And sometimes you need a reminder or a distraction from whatever problem your mind is creating around you.
Here are some things to help distract you from you
Let’s face it. Sometimes we cause many of our problems. We may be having an emotional moment. Or maybe we are just confusing ourselves. Either way, we need to be distracted from the pain, confusion or dismay that is being caused. Here is something I thought about after the fact. Meaning that I couldn’t think of a single one of these when I was in the middle of the issue. But they were quite clear afterward!
Reading something inspirational
Have you ever opened an e-mail late and realized had you read it any earlier you might have missed the message and deleted it with no thought what so ever. Because while the content was good it didn’t fit what was happening to you at that exact moment.
I had a moment like that today.Cleaning up my e-mail was all I could do earlier today and I was doing such a good job of it at that moment because I didn’t know what else to do. There are so many classes and things I’m learning that I got confused and didn’t know what to do next. It turned out though, opening and completely reading the e-mail was exactly what I needed in that moment.
Read something for the fun of it
What is your favorite thing to read? Who is your favorite author? Are you into sci-fi or are you a romance fanatic. We each have our preferences. Taking time to enjoy what we are doing can take out the feeling of work. For example, I enjoyed reading the e-mail today. It set me on a better path and helped me to not feel like such a failure.
The other post I started today. Well, I did not enjoy reading it and while all the information was correct and true, it felt fake to me. After reading the e-mails I felt that little bit of spark and I thought that I should read myself a book later. A little reprieve from the constant stream of learning and often times not understanding and having to study.
Studying was never a fun past-time for me. I have gotten better at it over the years. If I have to ask a lot of questions to understand… It loses its fullness to me. The meaning is strewed and I have to have some time to take it all in. Soak it up.
Get out of the house ( or leave work!)
Sometimes getting out of a circumstance or situation can immediately change how you are feeling. Having a bad day at work. All you have to do is survive till the bell rings. Then run. The minute you leave the building things start to look up.
At least that is how it use to be for me while I was working. The minute I walked out that door some of the oppression would lift off me. And as I drove home I would feel more and more relief. Very rarely were the same thoughts there when I got up the next day.
Are you stuck in the house? Leave. Take a walk or a drive. Walk to the mailbox or around the house. Removing yourself from the air your currently in can help to change your outlook on life in that moment. Wish I would have thought of this earlier. I bet it could have changed my whole perspective.
The best part of our day is when we get to leave. Unfortunately, my household has been stuck in the house due to children’s illnesses lately. That might be why I felt the way I did today. And I know I’m not the only one feeling it. But we have got to get rid of this cough that is stuck with the kids. I think it’s almost gone. But as long as I have to still give them medicine for the mucus part of it. I see no reason to leave. we have been this way for several weeks.
Getting regular exercise can help to relieve any kind of stress before it starts. But sometimes a little extra doesn’t hurt. When your feeling like a failure getting in a lap or two at the gym or a few jumping jacks might be the thing to pull you out of it. Or check out some videos from sparkpeople.com
There really are so many kinds of exercise available. What do I mean by that? What I mean is that you have no excuse to not get up and do something. Especially if it will help your situation. Unless you can’t think straight enough to do it. That was my situation earlier. Seriously there was a lot to get me out of my feeling like a failure funk, but I couldn’t think of a thing.
So, If your feeling like a failure today try something to pull you out of it. Chances are that even if you are failing at something that doesn’t mean you’re a failure at everything. Sometimes we have to fail several times before we succeed.
